وَنَهَضْتَ حِينَ وَهَنُوا وَلَزَمْتَ مِنْهَاجَ رَسُولِ…

وَنَهَضْتَ حِينَ وَهَنُوا
وَلَزَمْتَ مِنْهَاجَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ إذْ هُمْ أَصْحَابُهُ
وَكُنْتَ خَلِيفَتَهُ حَقّاً
لَمْ تُنَازِعْ وَلَمْ تُضْرَعْ
بِرُغْمِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَغَيْظِ الكَافِرِينَ
وَكُرْهِ الحاسِدِينَ وَصِغَرِ الفَاسِقِين.
فَقُمْتَ بِالأمْرِ حِينَ فَشِلُوا
وَنَطَقْتَ حِينَ تَتَعْتَعُوا
وَمَضَيْتَ بِنُورِ اللهِ إذْ وَقَفُوا
فَاتَّبَعُوكَ فَهُدُوا
وَكُنْتَ أخْفَضَهُمْ صَوْتاً وَأعْلاهُمْ قُنُوتاً
وَأَقَلَّهُمْ كَلاماً وَأَصْوَبَهُمْ نُطْقاً
wa nahadta hina wahanu
wa lazamta minhaja rasulil-lahi sallal-lahu ‘alayhi wa alihi idh hum ashabuh
wa kunta khalifatahu haqqa
lam tunaza’ wa lam tudra’
birughmil-munafiqina wa ghayzil-kafirin
wa kurhil-hasidina wa sigharil-fasiqin
faqumta bil-amri hin fashilu
wa nataqta hina tata’ta’u
wamadayta binuril-lahi idh waqafu
fattaba’uka fahudu
wakunta akhfadahum sawtan wa a’lahum qunuta
wa aqallahum kalaman wa aswabahum nutqa
And you stood up (to face difficulties) when they became showed weak-heartedness,
And you abode by the course of Allah’s Messenger—peace be upon him and his Household—as they were his companions,
And you were truly his vicegerent.
No one could ever compete with you or vie with you in this position
In spite of the existence of hypocrites and the despise of the unbelievers,
And the malice of the enviers and the disgrace of the wicked ones.
You thus managed the matters when they failed to do so
And you spoke (the truth) when they stammered,
And you carried on with the light of Allah when they stopped.
As they followed you, they were guided (to the true path),
You voice was the lowest (out of politeness) and was the highest in supplication,
And you were the least in speaking and the you were the most eloquent of them,
